Twelve New Solos for the Student Tubist is a collection of a dozen new works for tuba with piano accompaniment as well as unaccompanied tuba (Note: This collection consists of the same solos in the euphonium collection. Here, they have been carefully edited to fit in the student tuba range). I wrote each of the twelve solos with distinct musical and pedagogical goals in mind, such as utilizing various scales and modes and focusing on different aspects of tuba playing such as articulation, style, low range, finger dexterity, lyrical playing, etc. Furthermore, each solo is intended to be both engaging for the soloist (and accompanist when applicable), and suitable for recitals, competitions, and festivals. Each solo is prefaced by an informational page containing program notes, practice tips, and musical goals. The solos are divided into three categories based on overall difficulty that are denoted by blue stars below the title of each piece (one star for middle school level, two stars for intermediate high school level, and three stars for advanced high school/early undergraduate level).
