DOUBLETROUBLE was written in late 2021 for Don-Paul Kahl. This work depicts an argument within one’s mind. The soloist essentially converses with themselves via suddenly changing tessitura, dynamics, techniques, tonality, style, and overall atmosphere. After a brief introduction, DOUBLETROUBLE consists of two contrasting sections – a groovy, technical portion, and a slow, contemplative one, with both sections stated twice. The piece ends with the sound fading into nothingness, as the mind is finally at peace.
